đź’ˇ How 3 founders validated their business idea

Sarah Paijii Yoo, founder of Blueland

"Founders should validate [their ideas] with other people. I think there are a lot of founders that get stuck in the trap of building a product or a service for themselves.

Blueland came from this mission to eliminate single use plastic packaging. I started to understand plastic's contribution to climate change, and I wanted to focus on plastic packaging. But that was it—I was agnostic as to what the product would be.

[Originally] toothpaste tablets were an idea that I was convinced was the best idea in the world. I had 40 friends and family try my toothpaste tablets for two weeks. I called them every single day to check in because your views on [a new product] can also change: Is day one weird, but is day three okay?

I also set clear guardrails for myself. I decided the metric for success would be that at least 25% of people would be open to switching.

When 80% of people said absolutely not, I would not switch, that [guardrail] was really helpful and clarifying. I think it would've been also easy for me to say, 'well, 20% is not bad,' if not for that target. It’s an exercise that we repeated with other products before we landed on cleaning.”

Charlotte Pienaar, founder of Everyday Humans

"We were not sure about beta testers but wanted to give it a stab and created a small experiment last year.

We put together 100+ mini samples for our beta testers of our first non SPF product—Ease Up, a watery PHA oil cleanser.

We recruited the focus group via Instagram by asking them to co-create the product with us."

Monica Grohne, founder of Marea Wellness

"We have utilized industry-specific Facebook groups to find beta testers and ask for specific feedback. These weren't brand-specific Facebook Groups—for us it was PMS/PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) support groups.

So, if your target market is moms, you could find mom groups on Facebook to recruit beta testers.

We've also utilized TikTok content like this to test the waters and see how people respond to different ideas or directions, and to crowdsource or gauge interest in new flavor ideas."

🚀 3 tips to drive revenue and retention

If you are looking for the perfect ingredient to increase sales, it's this: personalization. Right now, personalization is at the core of every brand’s strategy.

Personalization can lead to revenue growth between 5% to 15%, and 90% of retailers state that personalization is a priority for them. When done right, personalization not only attracts new customers but also nurtures existing ones.

OK, enough with the hard stats: here are Gorgias' top three tips to nail a more personalized customer experience:

  1. Content is everything: Personalizing content might seem like a no-brainer, but usually, the most basic things have maximum impact. Tapping into people’s emotions to create a positive experience is the key to a strong bond with your customer. Tools like Gorgias help make this simpler by creating personalized messages ahead of time to respond faster.

  2. Engagement channels: Your customers are present everywhere. They find you through ads, social media platforms, engage through live chats, sign up through email, and phone you for voice support. Being present where your customers are remains the cornerstone of impeccable customer service. Gorgias centralizes all of your channels in one dashboard to make that easy.

  3. Saving time, making money: Win over customers with two main factors—convenience and speed. Giving customers back the time they would spend finding a solution amplifies the quality of your service. Gorgias allows you and your team to set up an efficient and automated self-service experience that reduces the hassle of waiting for basic answers to ordinary problems.

An effective personalization strategy enriches the customer experience, leading to greater customer satisfaction, increased revenue, and long-term loyalty.
